Among Japan's lighter weight fighters none shine more than Hayato "Mach" Sakurai. From his debut in 1996 all the way to 2001 he remained undefeated in mixed martial arts and this included victories over such fierce competitors as Caol Uno, Frank Trigg, and Dave Menne. Though time and again he has demonstrated his solid striking skills, he is most proud of his incredible grappling ability, which includes a 2nd place finish in 1999 in the open weight category of the prestigious Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling Championships. His nickname of "Mach" (pronounced ma-ha) comes from his training days in which his training partners called him "Mach" because of a Japanese professional wrestler named Mach Hayato (Sakurai's first name). With his incredible speed and showmanship, Sakurai remains one of the best fighters in the world in any weight class!
