Known as the "phenom," Vitor Belfort burst into the mixed martial arts scene in 1996 at the age of 18. The young Brazilian left a trail of destruction in his wake including wins over David "Tank" Abbott, Tra Telligman, and also Wanderlei Silva. In 1999, Belfort joined PRIDE and garnered wins over Gilbert Yvel and Heath Herring. At UFC 46, Belfort became the UFC light heavyweight champion with a victory over Randy "The Natural" Couture (via injury), though Couture would regain the title at UFC 49. Belfort began studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at age thirteen under Carlson Gracie and has achieved the rank of black belt. Besides his outstanding submission abilities, Belfort is also an explosive puncher with world-class boxing skills. "The Phenom" speaks four languages ... English, Portuguese, Spanish and Latin.
